Match Report: Moose CC vs Heretics, 21st July 2018
The Oxford sun was shining on the Moose and its tribe as they arrived at the Queen's College Recreation Ground to take on perhaps the fiercest of oppositions in the Heretics. Large nights were had by some, Bailey looking from another planet having been thrown out of 151 on Kings Road just 3 hours previously and Butcher making the pilgrimage by Uber. Thomson was psyched up by the Oxford Tube refusing to pick him up having heard of his recent dieting, shouting at the skipper down the phone what he was going to do to those 'Tics in return.
Moosey won the toss and elected to field on a wet and uncovered strip, conditions surely dissimilar to what Howie experienced on his Thursday night. Youngster and debutant Jack Foreman opened with tidy areas but his opening partner Al Hinchliffe could not seem to relax, perhaps doubling the length of his short spell in wides and no balls. Wills took the duty of sweeping up and did so admirably. Wickets fell regularly on a sticky pitch and Moosey seemed to be getting away with some poor bowling. It took some comedy slip fielding from the skipper C Hinchliffe, dropping two in two deliveries from the 'Tics' number 7 on zero, to let the opposition back into the game, that number 7 going on to score a well made 50. The rest of the Moose held their catches and contained the 'Tics to 198.
The Moose innings started positively with Elliott and McNaught looking strong, however the slow pitch didn't help in their demises and the Moose were checked. Munro and Bailey sought to rebuild but Munro also fell to a sluggish delivery. Howie was looking assured but was clearly disturbed by a wicked beamer bowled by 'Tics skipper and best friend H McGahan. Lo and behold the next when was full and straight with Howie attempting a hoick over mid-wicket. Moose wickets continued to fall regularly but Bailey was a force to be reckoned with, anchoring the innings but also scoring freely. His 105* was an innings to remember considering the opposition and his inability to see in the morning. He saw the Moose past the target with C Butcher.
Another great day in Oxford and that brings the Moose back to level pegging with the Heretics at 2-2...(!)
Match Report: Moose CC vs The Griffin, 15th July 2018
The Moose at rest having beheaded the Griffin
The Moose arrived bright and early in deep idyllic Sussex, with the fixture being brought forward to an 11am start to accommodate the viewing of the football world cup final. With the Moose opting to bowl, Ogden proved he was not a morning person spraying it everywhere. Rumours have it that the erratic bowling prompted James to “hang up the gloves” after the match. Despite this, Ogden managed to burgle a wicket with one that landed on the strip.
This brought Chapman to the crease, who enjoyed some wayward bowling, and tucked in to the short boundary. Wickets fell regularly at the other end, with Crouch and Barblet, the Aussie overseas ringer, collecting their first wickets for the Moose. Chapman eventually fell for 83 attempting the reverse sweep against Howie with James snaffling the catch behind the stumps.
Howie then proceeded to plough through the tail taking two wickets in two balls. With the Moose crowding the bat, the hat trick bowl struck the batsman on the pad in front of middle. The umpire ruled it not out, due to “the ball pitching outside off”. Despite this being a questionable “not out” reason, it also suggests Howie spins the ball…anyway, such an unfortunate decision could not have happened to a nicer bloke.
The Griffin ended their innings on 205-9, a respectable score off their 35 overs, with Howie being the pick of the bowlers (4-37), ably supported by Srypok (2-26).
Set 206 to win, the Moose started fluidly through Elliot and Morten, with Munro maintaining the run rate when Elliot fell for 14. The extreme heat and the numerous running of threes to the long boundary took their toll on Munro (49) and Morten (64), leaving Hinchliffe (51*) to guide the Moose to victory by four wickets, despite the mandatory middle order collapse. The ravenous Moose then tucked in to tea, which included the bizarre yet tasty combo of sandwiches on a cocktail stick with a presentational olive.
A special mention must go to James, who in his last match as keeper took two catches and an elusive stumping to cap a fine stint behind the stumps for the Moose.

Match Report: Moose CC vs Cambridge to Casablanca Cycling CC, Barn Elms, 3rd June 2018
Morts acknowledging the crowd after a fine knock of 78 '
Following a wash out at the HAC in May, the Moose arrived at a sun soaked Barn Elms hoping to get the 2018 season off to a winning start versus the Cambridge to Casablanca Cycling Cricket Club. Buoyed by a number of new recruits, the Moose took the field to have a bowl having lost the toss in batter friendly conditions and made a tidy start. Khurram - one of the three debutants on show for the Moose - was particularly impressive, bowling with pace and skill to make early inroads to the CTCCCC top order. However, an impressive fourth wicket partnership of between Pearson and Hesketh put CTCCC back in contention. Howie played the role of partnership breaker for the Moose, as he tempted Hesketh to go aerial on 48 with a flighted wide delivery which was expertly held by McGahan in the deep. Howie quickly followed this up with a sharp diving stop and throw to run Hobbs out for a duck. Bucknell, Keylock and Fisken all contributed with economical and threatening spells and were unlucky not to be rewarded for their efforts in the wickets column. CTCCC finished with 232 - 5 from their 35 overs, guided through by Pearson who batted superbly for his 96 not out, denied a century only by lack of strike in the last few overs. Khurram was the pick of the Moose bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 / 29 off his 7 overs.

In response, the Moose got off to a flying start with Stuart Morten and Andrew McNaught tucking into some loose bowling at the top of the innings. Morten picked up where he left off in September, driving the ball fluently through cover and straight, while McNaught – batting for the first time in England – acclimatised quickly and showed his class with a flicked 6 off the legs. The partnership was broken when McNaught found the man in the deep off the leg-spin of Dean for 34. Morten and Munro combined to further consolidate the Moose’s strong position. Munro batted fluently for his 33 before being undone by one which kept low, and Morten continued his good form by bringing up his 50. However, the loss of Morten for 78 triggered a collapse in the Moose middle order; Howie followed for 4 and Fisken made 2 before being caught and bowled by Rutt. Requiring 40 off the last 5 overs with 5 wickets in hand, the game was very much in the balance before Tom Ford played the decisive hand for the Moose, making a rapid 40 not out including three 6’s and four 4’s, securing a victory for the Moose.
